On 26th November 1949 Constituent Assembly accepted India's Constitution but it came into power from 26th January 1950 therefore we celebrate it to mark that day. The constitution of India was ready after 2 years 11 months and 18 days (almost 3 years).
It's a national festival celebrated throughout the country with great pomp and show. A grand parade is held at Rajpath in New Delhi as well as many cultural programs in whole the country. After India's Constitution brought into effect India became a federal, democratic republic, removing monarchy. In 1929 Jawaharlal Nehru was elected the president and he is asked for complete freedom.
Indian leaders announced January 26, 1930 as 'Purna Swaraj Divas'

How Republic Day is celebrated
An excellent parade is held at Rajpath in New Delhi in which Indian Army, Air force, Navy plus traditional dance groups take part. Parade starts when the Prime Minister offers garland at Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate. It's done so, to remember sacrifices of Indian soldiers while died, saving the country. President of India receives the salute from the Military in the capital (New Delhi) whether state governor takes the Military salute in the capitals of states.
National awards are distributed to the soldiers, common people and students of India by Indian Government. Indian Air Force perform flying parade by the fighter plans leaving three colours smoke of Indian flag. Armed forces helicopters perform parade showering petals of rose flower over the heads of audience. School students group perform dance parade by singing Indian patriotic songs. Armed forces staff perform motorcycle stunts. All these parades are held to offer the honour salute to the president of India. Some traditional & cultural programs are also held by Indian professionals to remind the culture and history of India. On this day all the government and private offices remain closed as per the order of Government of India. There happens special security for the audience because of huge crowd gathered there.
History of behind Republic Day celebration
India suffered the slavery of British rule for so long that's about 200 years. It was because of the business with India and the struggle between interested nations. However, India became fully independent on August 15, 1947 but it has no its constitution by which the country can be managed systematically. On November 4, 1947 the first Indian Constitution draft was presented by the drafting committee to the national assembly and it was verified by singing on January 24, 1950 in English and Hindi. At the last stage means 26th January 1950 it came into effect and since then we are celebrating this day as Republic Day means Anniversary of 'Purna Swaraj Divas'. It is called Republic Day because in the Constitution of India there was many rights reserved for all people, so we also remind them. Indian Constitution provided the power to the citizens of India to elect their own government by election after every five years.
