A good looking blog that is designed professionally always attract the visitors attention and make them our permanent visitors. There are many blogs full of mistakes I found created by freshers. Everyone makes mistakes in start up in every areas because of the lack of sufficient information. First thing is to learn what you are doing and then find out the mistakes, at last improve them properly.
Here I am going to share some common mistakes regarding blog designing that most of the fresh bloggers do. If there are mistakes in a blog designing it results very poor as less traffic or more bounce rate. So let's get started point by point.
● Manage layout color combination
Colourful things attract everyone but choosing many colours for blog layout is not considered good because it interrupt the visitors and that visitor never comes again on that site. Don't use heavy colours and stylish fonts. It irritates the users to understand the text.
● Limited links in Menu
Whenever we visit a new site and want to see the overview of all the articles posted on that site, we visit Menu bar and make an estimation what kind of contents we can find on this site. Adding a number of links in Menu bar confuses the visitors, so remove all unnecessary links from the menu bar.
● Fix a font for your posts
Using various kinds of fonts makes your site look spamming. You can choose different fonts just for Paragraph and headings but keep it consistent in all the posts. All posts on your blog should be written with the help of same fonts.
● Apply Mobile friendly/Responsive theme
As you know that more than 90% people are using Smartphone for using internet. So, if your site is not mobile friendly then your site will receive limited traffic. There are many responsive themes/templates those work well on both computers & mobiles.
● Improve Broken links
Search Engine doesn't value to broken links and nor the visitors. Dead links or broken links are those links those do not work well means do not open any targeted webpage.
● Don't add unwanted widgets in Sidebar
Don't add unnecessary widgets like Visit counter, Page rank, World clock, word cloud etc. because your visitors don't need it. The more widgets you apply the more time your site will take to open the site, therefore it distract visitors.
Sidebar is very important part of your blog body, so you can add beneficial widgets like Popular posts, Newsletter, Social icons and a responsive advertisement to fulfill Sidebar.
● Content should be neat & clean
Visitors shouldn't have to be feeling pity visiting your site. To make content good looking maintain font, font-size, font and background color properly.
● Don't use moving content
Using Marquee and GIF images is not much preferable at present on the sites. It was used years ago to attract the visitors but it couldn't result as well as expected. So, avoid the use moving text or images.
● Use quality pixel image
The image is a very important part of a blog post that expresses what about the post is. Images play an important role to grow our audience and real-time reading of the blog posts but if the image quality is poor then it will affect bad. Don't use small size image increasing its size because it affects the quality of the image. Keep in mind never use big size image without compressing it but don't compress image so much to keep its quality.
● Don't place too much Ads
As you know that most of us started Blog to generate revenue showing Ads of different types of Ad Networks but you must be acquainted that your visitors are visiting your site to get the information wrote by you not to see the Advertisements. So, you can implement limited Ads because it also increase the CPC of Ads. Visitors don't like the site that is full of Ads having less content.
● Differentiate between links & text
There should be some difference between the links and common text of your blog post so that visitors can click the link to open any specific post. You can bold, italicize or underline the link for better identity.
● Proper text alignment
Don't apply different-different alignments to your blog posts. My recommendation is to use left to right alignment. You can also use Justify to fulfill the post. Don't use right to left alignment until you write in Urdu. In case, you can use center align but off and on.
● Add Social Media icons
Maybe the visitor liked your post and he/she wanted to share that with someone. In this case that person will need any social network, so you should use Social Networks icons after the post.
● Search Box is must
Your site must have a search box because when someone wish to get a post on a particular topic or keywords that person can search for the post if available. You can add Google Search Engine box that gives the search results from your site along with advertisement sites that makes you money.
