Submit Sitemap Directly to Search Engines [fully explained guide]

Have you submitted the sitemap of your blog or website? Not yet. Okay, let me explain you all about it for you all.

What is a Sitemap?

A sitemap is an XML file of your blog or website which contains the entire list of all posts and pages. It helps to improve blog’s crawling rate and indexing our blog posts to rank higher in Google search results. In short, it's must for a site to be viral on search engines.

Why to submit a sitemap?

Let me tell you an example to make you understand the importance of submitting a sitemap of a site.

John opens a shop somewhere in his local area and sits all day long in his shop but he hasn't enough sale of goods. Do you know why?? Because he didn't spend on advertisements nor he told someone that he opened a shop, even customers aren't telling each other about the shop. So, how is it possible to make number of sales just sitting inside the shop.

Sitemap introduces your site's content to the search engines. There are some popular search engines used all over the world like Google, Bing, Yahoo etc. You will have to submit the sitemap to all search engines one by one separately but you don't need to submit your sitemap to yahoo because submitting the sitemap to Bing automatically submit to yahoo.

However, the default sitemap of a blogger blog contains only 26 recent posts of your blog. You can check your Blogger sitemap with the help of this URL. Do replace your blog address in the link before you check.

Steps to Submit Blogger Sitemap to Google Search Console (GSC)

Google Search Console (formerly known as Google Webmaster Tool) is a free service for webmasters offered by the Google which is helpful to manage sites. Let's get started step by step.

● Log into Google Search Console
● Choose a site to add the sitemap
● Go to Crawl and then click on Sitemap
● Click on "ADD/TEST SITEMAP” at the upper right of the screen.
● Paste the following code in the box
atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500
● Click on "Submit Sitemap" button and refresh the page.

That’s it. You’ve successfully submitted the sitemap to Google Search Console. Remember, it will work for 500 blog posts.

If your blogger blog has more than 500 posts, then you will have to submit one more sitemap with the following code (steps are the same).
